The old town of Funchal is one of the first populated areas in Madeira. This part of Funchal is of great architectural and historical value. The old town is located in the lower part of the city, right by the sea. In the old town of Funchal you will find a large number of restaurants and bars that serve many dishes and of course the traditional drink Poncha. This island drink is made from sugar cane liquor, bee honey, sugar, lemon and various types of fruit juices.

Finding your way to the old town of Funchal
There are different ways to get to the old town. For example, you can take a taxi or bus. But if you have the opportunity, you should explore the old town on foot. The walk from the harbor along Avenida do Mar is very nice and only takes 30 minutes.
